Massive Road Upgrade for Regional Vic: Safer Travel Ahead with $976M Investment

The Victorian Government has pledged a significant $976 million in the 2025/26 State Budget to tackle potholes and resurface roads across regional Victoria. This funding is part of a broader $1.2 billion road maintenance blitz aimed at easing congestion and enhancing safety across the state. The investment will focus on repairing arterial roads, bridges, and vital transport infrastructure, along with emergency road works based on community reports.

In addition to this major statewide boost, $81 million has been earmarked for key regional projects, including vital upgrades to the San Remo Bridge linking Phillip Island to the mainland, and the Mt Emu Creek Bridge in Terang to support heavy freight vehicles. Safety enhancements will also roll out along the Princes Highway East in Lakes Entrance. Industry groups like the Victorian Transport Association have welcomed the investment, calling it a crucial step toward a more efficient and dependable road freight network, especially for regional areas that rely heavily on quality infrastructure for economic activity and safety.
