Freight Operators Invited to Help Shape Bruce Highway Upgrades

Truck drivers and freight operators now have an opportunity to directly influence how the $9 billion Bruce Highway upgrade program is delivered in 2025, with applications open for the Bruce Highway Advisory Council (BHAC).

The council works closely with the Queensland Government, providing advice on safety issues, investment priorities, and freight efficiency along the Bruce Highway, Queensland’s most critical freight corridor, stretching more than 1,600 kilometres from Brisbane to Far North Queensland.

Queensland’s Department of Transport and Main Roads is calling for experienced road users from across the state to ensure strong regional representation. Target areas include the North Coast, Wide Bay/Burnett, Fitzroy, Mackay/Whitsunday, Northern Queensland and Far North Queensland.

Successful applicants will join the council for a 12-month term, attending approximately two in-person meetings per year. While the role is voluntary, all reasonable travel and meeting expenses will be reimbursed.

Applicants must submit a short written statement outlining their experience using the Bruce Highway, along with a brief resume. Nominations close Friday, January 23 at 5pm.

Industry figures such as Sunshine Coast truck driver Niell Graham, who served on the council last year, have already indicated they will reapply, highlighting the value of having truckies at the table when key infrastructure decisions are made.
