What does Line Haul mean in Trucking?

What is Line Haul?

Line Haul Refers to the transportation of goods between two points via air, sea or land and often over a long distance. These two points are usually major cities, ports or warehouses. The routes are fixed, however the loads can vary in volume and weight, all the way from tiny loads such as documents, to loads weighing thousands of kilograms. Carriers often charge a premium for shipping services called a ‘linehaul surcharge’.

What Load Restraint Gear do Line Haul Operations Use?

Because of the diversity of loads carried in Line Haul operations, a variety of load restraint solutions are used to secure the loads. If the loads are being transported via container, cargo bars, dunnage bags and ratchet straps are often used to keep items from shifting inside the container. If the load is being carried via truck, tie down ratchet straps will often be needed to tie-down pallets, alongside corflute and plyboards for blocking. Pallet angles will often be applied to prevent damage to the loads and the tie down straps. If the load is inside a rigid truck, e track and f track shoring bars will often be used alongside corflute for blocking. However the loads are so diverse they may require other equipment – or none at all, it really depends!
