$7.2 Million Safety Upgrade Set for Hume Highway

Safety and maintenance works are set to begin on another section of the Hume Highway, with the NSW Government investing $7.2 million to improve conditions for motorists and freight operators travelling through Berremangra.

The works will focus on a key stretch of the northbound carriageway between Bogolara Road and Cobbler Road, covering around seven kilometres of highway. The project follows the completion of $10 million worth of upgrades on the southbound carriageway last November.

Transport for NSW says the upgrades are designed to make journeys safer, smoother and more reliable along one of the state’s busiest freight and transport routes.

The project will be delivered in two stages and will include widening sections of the highway, installing new safety barriers and replacing damaged concrete pavement. These improvements are expected to provide better protection for road users, improve ride quality and help extend the life of the road.

Transport for NSW Executive Director Brendon James said the upgrades form part of an ongoing commitment to reducing the risk and severity of crashes on major routes.

He noted that serious crashes have far-reaching impacts on families, communities and road users, making practical safety improvements an important priority across the network.

Work on the first stage is scheduled to run on weekdays from 1 July through to 28 August. During this period, traffic management will be in place, including lane closures and reduced speed limits.

Motorists travelling through the area should allow for delays of up to 10 minutes and follow all signage and directions from traffic controllers.
